Irish Rosaries and ChapletsIrish Penal Rosary One of the earliest 'tenners' (ten bead or one decade pocket rosary; decima rosary), the Irish Penal Rosary came into use during the Penal Times, a time of religious persecution of Catholics in Ireland. This small version of the rosary was more easily concealed than a traditional rosary. One end of the penal rosary had a long, narrow crucifix that could be hidden up the sleeve. At the other end, a ring, used to count decades as it was moved from one finger to the next.
Our Irish Rosaries and Chaplets are handmade with quality materials, including precious metals and gemstones, combining brilliant sterling silver and deep, golden bronze with the rich colors and intricate patterns and textures of a variety of 'responsibly sourced' natural materials--each piece is a work of art. Crucifixes, crosses and religious medals are hand cast from antique and vintage pieces. |
